I have photographed chinese weddings in the past and am use to seeing red envelopes filled with cash being given out to anybody and sometimes everybody, for this particular chinese wedding they had a whole scene of fun traditions to witness…

Later in the night the dancefloor opened up and a conga line developed! After the conga dance I swept the couple away for another set of portraits in the front of the property…

this is a two light setup, one light on the brides face and one from behind to allow her to stand out from the background. I love capturing journalistic photos with lighting equipment…

Then when it actually came time to photographing them rock climbing and I realized the best photographic angle required me to repel down off the rock with a camera attached to my neck, I thought "what the hell am I doing"!  

Months of communication and thoughtful planning went into capturing the couple with the famed Diego Rivera mural.  I didn't want to simply light the entire scene with a softbox so I lit three specific areas and along with photoshop created this rich and moody portrait, which equally highlights the couple and the mural…

The Westin San Jose which is located in the heart of the downtown, and across the street from the annual Christmas in the Park, has beautiful backgrounds for photographing portraits.  Furthermore, what was absolutely perfect about this hotel meshing with our couple was the fact there literally was six visually captivating...

The basement of the SF Mint in the mid 1800's is where gold collected from miners was stored.  Having various types of food and activities in each storage room made for a scavenger hunt type of atmosphere...

and THEN there was the cake cutting part of the evening...  My assistant and I got a kick out of the over sized doughnut cake.  Prior to cutting the cake there was a low rumble from the crowd.  Was there a possible food fight between the couple you ask? no that didn't happen...

This is where the fun began, the couple made light of such a "serious" wedding formal shoot and instead gave me a comedic series of poses...

At every wedding I photograph I learn a lot about a couple's personalities, it's just the nature of being a wedding photographer, but this day was a little different for me.  I grew up with a friend who also had a firefighter for a father and because of this I felt a little more at home a little quicker than usual...

Justin and Lauren's new life long adventure has begun, as they reminisce through these photos they are settling into their new home away from home in Japan.  Justin's upcoming professional basketball season will be a lot easier with his best friend by his side...
