San Francisco City Hall Wedding Tips

You can find underground parking at the Civic Center Parking Garage (click for map) or 1/2 a block away at the UC Hastings Parking Garage (click for map). Fridays are a popular day for weddings, if you would like to have less onlookers and tourist around you may find an early week ceremony a better option.

There are two main wedding options SF City Hall offers, a civil ceremony which is a public ceremony (6 guests maximum) - Cost $103, or a private weekday ceremony (100 guests maximum) - Cost $1000. Marriage licenses may be purchased on the day of your ceremony but I would suggest obtaining your license in advance to free up your time on the day of your wedding - Cost $120.

Flash photography, when used correctly, can create some of the most regal photos with rich visual depth.

Natural light photography, on the other hand, provides a clean and crisp feel. The visibility of flash in a photograph varies depending on the situation; sometimes it’s obvious, and other times, it’s virtually unnoticeable. This difference can depend on various factors. My early photography educators worked primarily in fine art, and my most influential mentor during my Bachelor of Arts in Photojournalism studies was Geir Jordhal—a highly respected fine art photographer. Jordhal once joined a Yosemite photography exploration group led by the legendary Ansel Adams.

I mention this because the use of flash in photography serves different purposes. Sometimes, it’s employed to create visually compelling and artistic effects, while other times it’s used subtly to enhance skin tones, correct white balance IN CAMERA, not in postproduction, or achieve technically accurate images. Ultimately, we use flash to ensure that each photo captures the maximum detail possible on the camera’s sensor.
