Oakland Scottish Rite Center

The last wedding I photographed of 2018 was a visual stunner. I had great elements to photograph from a grand cathedral, a Rolls Royce classic car and a beautiful venue with impressive lighting. Read along through Rene and Maritza’s love story.

During the morning preparations I snuck in a journalistic style portrait. Maritza, while having her hair done, was lit with a strobe focused just on her as to pull your attention from across the room.

Sometimes a simple glancing look can speak volumes.

Rene and his groomsmen were a pleasure to photograph, my assistants and I felt at home while photographing this meaningful day.

As the wedding party was leaving the San Ramon Marriott Hotel for the ceremony I quickly set up a bridal portrait.

and an intimate moment between Rene and Maritz took place, no peeking!

It’s always nice to go back to All Saints Church in Hayward, it’s a beautiful cathedral.

The bride and groom were rollin’ in style to the reception in this classic Rolls Royce.

The Scottish Rite Center at Lake Merritt in Oakland is always impressive, I have photographed weddings and Golden State Warriors events here but the lighting on this particular night takes the cake!

Photography tip: Bouncing a single strobe in the confines of a car can produce warm soft light, bounce your light if you can’t fit a softbox in there!

here we had all of the room we could ask for, we created this elegant warm look using a mini softbox.

The staircase at the Scottish Rite Center made for a great space for a staggered wedding party portrait.

Rene and Maritza surprised everybody with a eight or so minute choreographed dance performance, they could really move!

Cake Delight created a classic looking wedding cake.

What a night, everybody had a great time on the dance floor.
